For the past four years Natalie has been a registered nurse at a large municipal hospital. As a professional nurse, she undoubtedly knew what to tell her patients when it came to their health problems but in her off-duty life, then again, she without a doubt didn’t practice what she preached. For example, she occasionally drank in an irresponsible and abusive manner, she made it a habit to stay away from exercising, she smoked almost two packs of cigarettes on a daily basis, and she was roughly fifty pounds overweight.

Natalie Gets Into A Vehicle Accident, Fails A Breath Alcohol Test, and Goes to The County Jail

One afternoon on her way to her job, Natalie got into a traffic accident. Due to the fact that the accident was her fault and since her speech was jumbled when she spoke, the arresting policeman gave her a breathalyzer test. According to standard police operating procedures, when a person is involved in a traffic accident and does not pass an alcohol test, the individual has to spend at least seven hours in jail.

In fact, Natalie should have known better than to drive after she was drinking because she recently attended an “alcohol abuse awareness” class at the hospital that centered on information about alcohol facts such as the following: alcohol poisoning, binge drinking, DUIs, and the essential differences between alcohol abuse and alcoholism.

Natalie is Feeling a Lot of Shame About Her Car Accident

Needless to say, Natalie experienced more than a little shame about her vehicle accident. Furthermore, she experienced quite a bit of shame about the fact that the accident was her fault. And conceivably worst of all, she was humiliated by the fact that she was driving after she ingested a few drinks. As Natalie considered this event, however, she grasped the fact that it could have been far worse because at her place of employment, when a blood test for alcohol is administered and failed, the individual has to go to obligatory alcohol counseling and is placed on non-pay status. This was actually one of the alcohol facts that was a reality at work and not much could be expected to change this fact.

Natalie’s Disgrace About Her Vehicle Accident Helps Motivate Her To Reexamine Her Life and Make Some Remarkable and Healthy Alterations

In any event, Natalie’s disgrace about her traffic accident encouraged her to reevaluate her life and make some substantial and healthy changes. First, she was going to quit drinking in an abusive and hazardous manner. Second, she was going to quit smoking. Third, she was going to go on a strict weight-loss diet. And fourth, she was going to start exercising.

As saddened as Natalie was about the entire car accident situation, she used this painful experience as a catalyst for beneficial change. Moreover, she used her agonizing experience as a wake up call that she had been neglecting her own health while she openly told her patients how to live in a more healthy manner. At last, she finally saw the pretense in her actions and made up her mind that she would live her life as a constructive example for the patients she treated at the hospital.
