Decades of investigation and medical experience have shown how much obesity is detrimental to health. The annual cost is many tens of billions of dollars in the US for all the similar problems related to obesity. What seems contradictory is the billions which are also used on weight loss products every year. If you look around you it is noticeable many individuals are overweight or perhaps officially regarded as obese. What is also perfectly known are the many unhealthy foods and beverages a lot of people consume. The main issue with a lot of foods and drinks is they contain unhealthy varieties of fat and are packed with sugar. Obesity often causes an array of health conditions, and here are several critical ones.

Type 2 diabetes due to obesity continues to be escalating at an alarming rate in recent years. In the past, type 2 diabetes mainly developed in adults, but that has changed because more teens are clinically obese. Obesity is known to cause insulin resistance which is important and a precursor to higher levels of blood sugar. A person who is already substantially overweight or severely obese is at an increased risk with a sugar rich diet. One very unhealthy component used in so many soft drinks is high fructose corn syrup. There is simply no comparing between high fructose corn syrup and processed sugar.

Premature problems affecting joints can often be a side effect of the obese problem. Obviously the bottom extremeties bear the greatest load, and so it is sensible that obese people have hip and knee joint problems. The severely obese person is usually at higher risk for joint problems such as osteoarthritis. Patients with extreme weight problems don’t always make for the best candidates for artificial joints. However, the best outcomes occur when there is not an obese condition in these patients. Of course only a physician can make the final determination for those with abnormal weight problems. There are certain risks built in if surgery occurs simply because of the mechanics of the general situation. The joint that was changed may begin to be mechanically unsound that is certainly highly undesireable.

High blood pressure is a very common occurance among those that are obese. The problem with possessing so much weight is it significantly strains the entire body. The reason for this as it pertains to the cardiovascular system is the extra fat tissue still needs blood for nutrition and oxygen. The net effect is to put a terrific stress on the heart as a result of needs of the extra fat tissue. Not surprisingly, the heart must generate significant amounts of pressure to keep all that tissue oxygenated. In addition to the high blood pressure, the heart rate will be much higher as well.

It is very apparent that obesity is a condition that severely impacts all capabilities of the body. These are just several of the negative effects taken from a long list of medical conditions caused by severe weight gain.
