The Dieting Approach to Getting Ripped
Posted at by ifydcat on category weight lossNowadays a lot of people want those sexy ripped abdominal muscles and chest muscles we see plastered over the magazines and television. To get this look, you are going to have to remove this layer of fat that lies over the muscles . It is this layer of fat that hides away those muscles and gives a flabby look. In order to make this layer disappear, the best approach is to burn calories and to reduce their intake. In this article I’m going to focus on reducing calorie intake so you will know how to get ripped abs.
There are many diets, books, DVDs and websites giving information about many types of diets and usually claim their current diets are the best ones. This can be quite overwhelming. Lowering calorie intake, however, is what most of them come down to. The problem, however, with a lot of diets is that it is difficult to stay motivated and stay on them for a long time. It take a long term view and change of lifestyle to be able to get rid of fat and keep those rippling sexy abs.
How to stay motivated is the burning question though. The best way, I have found, is to break the long term goal down into lots of shorter term goals and not look past each short term aim. This technique can apply to many ambitions and sporting disciplines such as weight training. If you were to plan to lift a certain heavy weight you would not just go for it straight up you would build up slowly over many weeks. What you would plan to do is aim to increase the amount you can lift after a few weeks and then aim to increase the amount you lift again after a further few weeks and after a period of time maybe a couple of months to six months you will find that you will reach the ultimate goal of lifting a heavy weight. This approach can also be applied to dieting.
I have found the greatest success by aiming for around a four pounds weight loss over a 1 month period. I know most people would say this sounds very little compared to the huge amounts promised in those dieting books. However, most of these products involve some form of crash dieting which can quickly make you demotivated. They can also slow your metabolism making it difficult to lose further weight over the long term. Remember, this needs to be a long term, achievable change in lifestyle. If you were to achieve the goal of just 4 pounds a month in weight loss, that would be a massive forty eight pounds over a twelve month period. A sure fire way to get ripped. Remember, lots of small losses quickly add up into large losses. At the end of each month I usually set the target for the next month with a general outline of a plan which I often find goes a long way to keep me motivated.
So if you are looking to get rid of fat or following a fitness program like the Burn The Fat Program to get a set of ripped abs or just to look and feel more healthier and slimmer then a smaller stepwise approach is the best way to go.
