So, you’ve decided it’s a good time you begin losing a little weight, and that exercising more would be a good place to start. If you haven’t worked out in a while, or never, you may not have any idea how to get started. Sometimes, it can seem a little too much and even a little bit dreadful… But not to worry, there’s a simple way to start exercising again: walking! You definitely should integrate walking into your exercise plan if it’s not already there.

There are lots of ways you can fit walking into your day-to-day schedule. If you have a pet dog then take your pet for a walk around the block for a minimum of ten minutes. It may only have been ten minutes, but over a week that equals to 70 minutes, which is quite a great deal of walking. If you take your dog for a walk two times a day then that number is multiplied by two. If you don’t live too far away from work try walking there, or at least a part of the way. Obviously, if you live quite far frp, your office, it’s not such a good idea to walk all the way there every day (but feel free to try if you think you can do it!) A 30-minute walk to work is doable, and if you walk to and from work you’ll be walking for an hour daily. If you catch a bus, simply walk to the next bus stop so that you do a little more walking in the day. It’s not hard to incorporate walking in your daily life.

Walking is one of the easiest and best things you can do to be healthy. Because it’s an aerobic exercise, you’ll burn off calories, which means you’ll shed off some pounds and it’s also good for your heart. Walking is usually done at a slow pace, so you won’t be straining your joints too much, unlike running. My brother is very thin (but he eats a lot of junk food) and I asked him how he stays thin. He tells me doesn’t know, but he say that he walks a lot every day. It all made sense when he told me that. There’s no excuse not to exercise, when walking is very simple.

Try and get into a routine of walking daily as you’ll have a better chance of sticking to it, and with the right diet, you’ll be able to lose weight with no problem. As you become used to walking, you’ll observe that you’re definitely feeling better and, because it’s not that hard on you, your motivation will be enhanced as well. As you walk more and see changes, you’ll want to do more or step up the intensity level of your walks. If you believe you can do more – do it. Try walking faster or, if you’re feeling very confident, you could start jogging. From there, you can progress to more strenuous workouts.

There should be no excuse for you to not go out and walk even a short distance each day. Even if you’re busy you can find 10 minutes to walk in your yard, or if you’re a member of a gym, nip in and do half an hour on the treadmill at a slow pace to start off with.
